Background

The importance of research in African Higher Education Institutions cannot be overemphasized since it has become increasingly clear that undertaking cutting edge research projects is a major means of generating income for the institution; and if managed properly, could be the driving force behind national development in most West African countries. In line with the above, the theme for this year’s conference is ‘Enhancing Research Productivity in African Universities”. The conference Sub-Themes are

  • Opportunities and challenges for early career researchers
  • Partnership and collaboration in research technology transfer and intellectual property rights
  • Research management and administration
  • Strengthening the research base in West Africa
  • Cultural dimensions in multi-cultural research projects

 

Call for Abstracts/Papers

Abstracts are invited from interested participants on any topic within the context of the conference theme or sub-themes. Abstracts should be submitted by Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Presenters will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts and the appropriate session for presentation – the full papers should be submitted by October 30, 2009. Papers will be peer reviewed; only accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.

 

Abstracts must not exceed 300 WORDS and must follow the following format:

  • Word processing should be with MS Word, Font size 12pts Times New Roman, 2.5cm margins all round, justified margins and double spaced.
  • Printing should be done on one side only.
  • The abstract should be submitted by email as an attachment to researchadmin@ug.edu.gh with a copy to warimaoffice@yahoo.com. This is mandatory as only abstracts received by email will be processed. An additional hard copy may be submitted to the conference secretariat.
  • All contact details (including cell phone, email, mailing address) should be provided to ensure that presenters can easily be reached.

The Deadline for the submission of abstracts is 1700 hrs GMT on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.

Please note that once your paper is accepted, the conference registration fee must be paid to facilitate the inclusion of your paper in the conference proceedings.

Interested participants are required to complete the attached Registration Form and return it by email as an attached document - not later than:

  • Wednesday September 30, 2009 for early bird registration of USD $250 per participant, and
  • Wednesday October 30 2009 for late registration of  USD $300 per participant

This conference is targeted at all who are involved in research management in various institutions as well as faculty members interested in undertaking cutting edge research including (but not limited to):

  • Vice-Chancellors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Research Institutes
  • Provosts/ Deans of Faculties/Colleges
  • Senior academics and researchers from Universities and Research Institutes
  • Researchers (including early career researchers) and Research Administrators; Planning Officers in Government, Parastatals and Non-Governmental Organizations
  • Other categories of individuals desirous of acquiring skills in research management

 


Venue and General Information

The conference is hosted by the School of Research and Graduate Studies and will be held at the Centre for African Wetlands, located on the Legon Campus of the University of Ghana.
