Workshop on the The Fundamentals of Research Management             31 March & 01 April 

A workshop on the “Fundamentals of Research Management”, was held at the Centre for African Wetlands, University of Ghana from 31 March – 01 April. The workshop which was facilitated by the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) UK, identified the key roles and functions of research support offices and staff. This included some practical pointers of particular relevance to administrators in the region. The workshop also covered some higher level strategic issues, relevant to those with a management responsibility for supporting and developing research, and creating research support offices.

The workshop was attendend by delgates and speakers from West Africa, as well as Cameroon, India, South Africa, Uganda, United Kingdon, United States and Zambia.

Seminar on the Effective Dissemination of University Research Results

02 April 2008

 

An ACU seminar on effective dissemination of university research results took place on Wednesday 02 April at the Centre for African Wetlands, University of Ghana.  Here results from the ACU’s 2007 survey on University Extension Capacity were presented as a briefing on international trends in university extension capacity.

The seminar was of  interest to all university staff working in: Extension Offices, Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, Distance Education Provision, Consultancy Management, Industrial Liaison and Research Management.

Carnegie Programme to Strengthen Research Management in African Universities                     03 - 04 April 2008

The final meeting of the Carnegie Programme to Strengthen Research Management in African Universities took place at the Centre for African Wetlands, University of Ghana from 03-04 April 2008. The year-long project, funded by the Carnegie Cooperation New York, intends to develop specific proposals for steps to improve capacity to perform competitive research in 5 Carnegie partner universities, 4 MacArthur universities and 4 other ACU member universities in Africa. The project was facilitated by Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI), the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA). The final report of the project will be completed later this year
